My name is Ali Rizai and I have been born and raised at the ACIC. Pursuing my passion in Quran, I have been both a student and currently a Quran teacher at Maktab. I wish to serve my community through this position and paying back what was given, by bringing assistance and in hopes of learning new skills and abilities along the way.
dIRECTOR OF WOMEN AFFAIRS
DIRECTOR OF Education
My name is Sowita Hashimi and I am currently the Principal of ACIC Maktab. I have a bachelor’s degree in Human Resources and Industrial Relations from the University of Toronto and have been working in the field for over 5 years. I currently hold a position as an HR Business Advisor at the Toronto Stock Exchange. I have experience in many areas of HR, including but not limited to Learning and Development, Recruitment, and HR consulting.
My journey with ACIC Maktab started about 10 years ago when I joined as a teacher and throughout the years, I have held various positions that allowed me to implement new processes and procedures.
Over the years, I have been part of many initiatives in Maktab and was given the opportunity to implement these improvements. In 2015 we created the Maktab Executive Board, this gave Maktab the structure to be able to grow and the positions of the Executive Board transformed Maktab into a fully functioning school.
I had the opportunity to initiate nightly Ramadan and Muharram classes for our youth/children in the past 3 years, with the goal of the kids understanding the reason behind our dedication to these holy months. This has been very successful and inshallah we plan to continue these sessions.
One of the main initiatives I undertook was to improve the quality of our processes and teaching methods at Maktab. Our staff are dedicated to bringing creative lesson plans and focusing on building a relationship with the students and their parents to create memorable learning experiences. One such example is our dedication towards Islamic and cultural events, which include our Arbaeen Walk, Milad Un-Nabi, 15th of Shaban, Farsi Spelling Bee and other school wide celebrations.
Maktab is a vital part of the ACIC community as it prepares our next generation to serve Allah (swt) and the Imam of our time. I pray for the success of our youth and am grateful to have the opportunity to serve Allah (swt) and the community.
My commitment to my community has led me to join Maktab and I see the position of the Director of Education as a natural progression and the most fundamental way to be of service. I hope this position will allow me to implement new opportunities for learning and development, not only in Maktab but the community as a whole.
